MRI Results: Dec. 10, 2009

December 10, 2009

I have reviewed your MRI images with our neuroradiologists and Dr. Falci. I believe your question to us is: are there any changes in the appearance of the spinal cord in the area of injury? The simple answer to that question is no, we could not determine that there was a change in the area of injury. Also, the conus medullaris and the cauda equina are visualized in both studies.  I would point out that MRI is far less sensitive to change than physical exam findings. We commonly see patients who are exhibiting major change in functional status during their recovery period in whom MRI is showing little if any change; i.e. MRI is not very helpful as a measure of functional neurological change.
